Wollastons' 10th Annual Race for Business



The date has been set for the 10th Wollastons' Race for Business. It will be held on Wednesday 11 June 2008 starting in Chelmsford town centre at 6.15 pm. Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity will be this year's beneficiary charity.

Wollastons advises Essex County Cricket Club on new development



Wollastons LLP has been representing Essex County Cricket Club in the proposed £60 million plus re-development of the Club's Chelmsford site. Nicholas Cook, a consultant in the Wollastons Property department, leads the legal team advising the Club.

Seven new appointments at Wollastons



Wollastons has recruited three new assistant solicitors to join its Corporate, Commercial Litigation and Family teams. In addition Patrick Gass has now qualified into the Employment department and three new trainee solicitors have joined the firm.

Wollastons has been named as a 'Regional Heavyweight' in The Legal 500, which was published in September 2007. We are the only Essex firm to be awarded this ranking, and have now achieved this title for the sixth year running.

Race for Business 2007



The 2007 Wollastons Race for Business took place in Chelmsford on Wednesday 27 June with over 1,800 runners from 182 businesses raising money for Farleigh Hospice.

House of Lords clarify the cost of cancelling a commercial agency agreement early



The question of how much compensation is due to an agent on early termination of their contract will now be based on the value of the agency business as at the date of termination by the principal. This is an important change and the upshot of this decision will affect companies who operate agency contracts now or who are planning to in the future.

Dragon Boat Regatta 2007



Wollastons took part in the Dragon Boat Regatta at Paper Mill Lock, Little Baddow on Sunday 20 May dressed as Judges in wigs and gowns.

Nicholas Cook, who is the immediate past Chairman of the Essex Branch of the Institute of Directors, has now been elected as a National Council member.

Colin Makin is appointed Associate in the Employment team



Colin Makin, who joined the firm's Employment department in April 2006, has been promoted to Associate. Colin has specialised in employment law since qualifying in 1999 and has extensive experience of advising employers and employees on contentious and non-contentious employment law matters.

Assistant solicitor joins Corporate and Commercial department



Eileen McKendry-Gray joined Wollastons' Corporate and Commercial department in January 2007. She trained with a leading commercial firm in Belfast and has experience both in private practice and in-house, having previously worked on general commercial agreements, securitisation and intellectual property in particular.

New solicitor appointment in commercial litigation



Chris Sleep joined Wollastons in January having trained and qualified in 2005 with a large regional firm. He will work in the commercial litigation department where he will deal with a broad range of commercial disputes, including contractual disputes and negligence claims. Chris also has experience of acting for shipping and transport companies.

Wollastons acts for AIM listed Elektron PLC



Wollastons' Corporate and Commercial team recently acted for AIM listed company, Elektron PLC, in their takeover of Howle Holdings PLC, which was fully listed on the Official List in London.
